Stan Baucum is an Industry Specialist with Heritage Capital Group on the metals production, distribution, and fabrication team. With more than four decades of leadership experience in the steel industry, he advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, strategic growth initiatives, and operational consulting across the global steel sector.
Stan began his career with Chaparral Steel Company in 1984, where he advanced through a series of leadership roles to become Director of Sales. During his tenure, he led product development initiatives, successfully launched new sheet piling markets, and worked closely with senior leadership on the company’s strategic growth. He played a key role in Chaparral Steel’s successful initial public offering on NASDAQ in 2005 and its subsequent acquisition by Gerdau in 2007 for $4.2 billion. At the time, the transaction represented one of the highest-valued steel acquisitions on a per-ton basis in industry history and generated an 835% return for shareholders.
Following the acquisition, Stan joined Gerdau’s leadership team, where he managed more than $2 billion in annual sales for the company’s North American Long Products Division. Throughout his career, he has developed deep expertise in flat roll, structural steel, merchant bar, special bar quality (SBQ), sheet piling, and fabricated steel products. He has advised companies throughout North America, Europe, South America, and Asia, earning a reputation for strategic insight, market knowledge, and trusted relationships across the global steel industry.
Stan has served on the boards of the North American Steel Sheet Piling Association (NASSPA) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and previously chaired the Supplier Council of the North American Steel Alliance (NASA). He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from Stephen F. Austin State University and has completed management training at the Wharton School and University of Michigan.
In addition to his corporate leadership, Stan has been deeply committed to community leadership and economic development. He has served as a Midlothian, Texas City Councilman, President of the Midlothian Economic Development Corporation, Vice Chairman of the Midlothian/Waxahachie Regional Airport Board, and trustee for Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in the state of Texas.
Stan and his wife, Paula, reside on their family’s ranch near Waxahachie, Texas, where he grew up. They have two children, both of whom have built careers in the steel industry. Outside of work, Stan is an avid aviator and holds pilot certificates for both single-engine airplanes and gliders. Whether advising clients in the boardroom or soaring over the Texas countryside, he is driven by a passion for excellence, innovation, and building lasting relationships.
