Bob Spell brings over 35 years of executive leadership and financial expertise to Heritage Capital Group, helping business owners maximize value through strategic growth, operational improvement, and transaction execution.
Before joining Heritage, Bob served as Chief Operating Officer for a Southeast-based design and build package-handling company, where he facilitated growth, strengthened financial performance, and positioned the business for a potential sale. He previously held senior leadership roles at Reliance Steel & Aluminum Inc. and Chatham Steel Corporation, overseeing operations, finance, accounting, and IT while driving cost structure improvements, M&A activity, and internal audit development.
Earlier in his career, Bob advanced through leadership roles at Friedmans Inc., a publicly traded specialty retailer with more than 570 locations across 21 states. As President of the Southeast Division, he managed a business unit exceeding $160 million and directed a team of senior finance, merchandising, real estate, and regional leaders. His progression from Vice President of Finance to Vice President of Operations to Division President reflects his ability to integrate financial discipline with operational execution.
Bob earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from Georgia State University, graduating Cum Laude, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a graduate of Leadership Savannah and serves on the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Strategic Planning Committee and the Historic Savannah Foundation’s Revolving Fund Committee. In addition, he holds Series 7 and 63 licenses.
He also brings long-standing professional relationships with Heritage principals Bert Tenenbaum, Mike Young, and Bill Sales, Jr., developed during his tenure at Chatham Steel and Reliance, underscoring his deep industry ties and cultural alignment with the firm.
