Heritage Capital Group is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Bob Spell as a principal in the firm’s Savannah office. Bob brings over 35 years of executive leadership and financial expertise to his role, with a track record of driving operational performance, leading corporate finance initiatives, and enhancing enterprise value across both public and privately held companies.
Prior to joining Heritage, Bob worked as the chief operating officer for a Southeast-based design & build package handling business, where he focused on enhancing business performance and positioning the company for a potential future sale. He previously held multiple senior operational and financial leadership roles within Reliance Steel and Aluminum Inc., and Chatham Steel Corporation, where he was responsible for operations, accounting, IT, and finance operations. He also worked closely with the executive team on mergers and acquisitions, internal audit development, and cost structure improvements. Prior to that, he worked as an executive for Friedman’s Inc., a publicly traded retail jeweler, where he helped lead the company through significant growth and capital markets activity. Prior to this, Bob held consulting positions at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, where he supported businesses across multiple sectors with systems development and financial reporting.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Georgia State University, graduating Cum Laude. He has been a Certified Public Accountant and is a graduate of the Leadership Savannah program. Bob serves on the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Strategic Planning Committee as well as the Historic Savannah Foundation’s Revolving Fund Committee. Notably, Bob also brings prior working relationships with Heritage principals Bert Tenenbaum, Mike Young, and Bill Sales, Jr., developed during his tenure at Chatham Steel and Reliance, respectively.
“I’m honored to join the Heritage team and contribute to the continued growth of our Savannah office,” said Bob. “Having spent the majority of my career in the Southeast, and as a long-time Savannah resident, I’m excited to help local business owners navigate the challenges and opportunities of growing, transitioning, or selling their companies.”
“We’re excited to have Bob join our Savannah office, where his deep roots in the community and decades of leadership experience will make an immediate impact,” commented Bill Sorenson, CEO of Heritage. “Bob brings not only exceptional financial and operational expertise but also a genuine understanding of the local business landscape. His presence will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our continued growth in the Savannah market.”
