Equity Capital Markets is a report on the state of selected, key capital markets from around the world. The report covers the six-month period ended 31 December 2011, during which the markets experienced considerable volatility and investors, on the whole, displayed a risk-averse attitude towards new investment opportunities.
The uncertainty created by the sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone continued to impact the direction of the markets and resulted in frequent market volatility, often on a daily basis. Against this background, the major equity capital markets around the world experienced significant reductions in the volumes of IPOs, secondary fundraisings and the aggregate amount of capital raised. The report which follows provides details of the activity level within each of the markets reviewed. Going forward, any increased level of activity within each of these markets depends largely on a resolution of the issues surrounding the Eurozone and a restoration of investor confidence regarding the global economic stability and growth prospects as well as the specific regional influences affecting each market.
